Is this a legitimate reason for them to pick up the kids?

My DF'S grandpa is dying in the hospital. I have 2 kids i watch during the day but I asked them to come get them early so my DS and I can go and say our final goodbyes and be there for DF. Do you think it's a legitimate reason?

I think your fiancée should handle the kids on his own till you are done with work. Death can take days or weeks. I would make plans to replace you if that's why you didn't do your job.

It is his grandpa but we have grown extremely close to him.

Of course, no question.  Sorry for your children's loss.

Very legitimate reason. Anyone who thinks it's not is an asshole.
