Does having young girls in beauty pageants sexualize them?

Watched an episode of Law & Order: SVU. 8yo girl is found murdered and raped. Turns out a pedophile did it because a website called Cyber Luvs had fantasy stories etcetc. Anyway but the detectives said a beauty queen girl is a perfect victim because they're innocent but sexual at the same time. So what do you think? Tanning little girls, putting on fake lashes teeth and nails, sparkly dresses or revealing outfits. I do think it can have some negative affects on a child's psychology...but I can't imagine them arrousing anybody.

I am not a pagent kind of mom. I think it is weird to try to make your child look like an adult woman. There is dress up, but training a child to look like a woman just seems odd to me.

The society sexualizes every single child. Look at tv commercials, clothes girls wear, pregnancy teen rate. Sex is everywhere.

I think it depends on the pageants. The pageants you're referring to, yes.

I have seen "natural" pageants and they're very tasteful and age appropriate.

I just don't get the whole pageant thing.....
It's, weird and looking how they act, dress and etc it's not for me.
I wouldn't put my little girls in one.
