Yikes. I live in the woods too and I am a city kid. I have had to come face to face with fisher cats and coyotes...never a bear though! Urrgh.

I live in an apartment building that borders the woods and we have several dumpsters throughout the parking lot. There is a momma bear that has made the area her home and comes to eat here at night. They can't so anything because she has cubs and is keeping the more aggressive bears out of the territory. We can't go out after dark because of it. Its pretty scary but kinda interesting to get to watch from the safety of our balcony lol

We had deer eating our garden until the mountain lion started hanging around. At least now there's nothing eating our plants!
