Dh and I are having a disagreement. I want our daughters to know proper names for their genitalia, even at a young age.

Dh says vagina or labia sounds crude, especially if they end up saying it in public.

So...... what do your children call their private parts???

They call it by the correct name...Both girls and boy. But if my ss had it his way taking after his friends he'd call it a picker....

mine call them what they are, vagina, labia, penis.  I don't want any confusion if something where to happen and they needed to tell people what happened.

We teach proper terminology for body parts. My children are 3.

They know the proper terms. They have since they were babies and neither of my girls have ever randomly talked about it in public.

Im a huge advocate for teaching children the real names. God forbid if something were to ever happen, there will be NO confusion when the child tells someone about it. "Vagina" is far from crude.

I think I will teach my DD the proper names.

1 mom liked this
DD calls it her vulva. I recently (she's almost 5) explained that there are different parts of her vulva, and one is the vagina.

Um...Dd 7 says bbs for her chest and if she says anything about her other parts, it's 'down there'. She doesn't need to call it a vagina yet imo.
