My step dad of 26 years divorced my mom. In November he had a cancer scare and decided he did want to be married to her any more. There was no infidelity, and he has yet to give her a valid reason other than he doesn't want to be married to her any more.

The grand kids are 19,17, 13, 13, 11. These kids are bio to my mom (mine and sib's kids) but step dad was there since thier birth and played the roll of grandpa. He has yet to teach out to me or my sibs, or the grand kids.

I'm ok never having contact with him again... But how dies he do that to the kids? What would you do in regards to the kids? Contact him? Have the kids contact him? Explain to the kids that these are the choices he made, we don't know why, but they are.

Luckily the kids are all older.

Given the age of the kids, I would explain that you don't know why he is not around, but it is what it is.

He's probably going through a mid life crisis. I wouldn't contact him.
