Does your Chi straightener close all the way down? The ceramic should touch, right? This is unusual for me, and I know a stupid question, but I paid a lot of money for it and just want to know if I need to send it back.

No its fine. Both my GHD's are the same way. I think it has something to do with the way it needs to heat up and how it will line up once your hair is in it.
