Character Backpacks for 2nd grade?

Yay or Nay?

I went shopping and DS (7) picked out a Lightening McQueen backpack and a Ninja Turtles lunch bag for 2nd grade. My DH said they are too babyish for him but he loves them. Do you think they are too babyish for 2nd grade even if the child loves them?

I know they don't hold up well so I always have a backup BTW. No biggie.

I still think it's ok. DD picked out a monster high lunch box. She did not choose a charatcer backpack though.

My ds who is 7 going into 2nd grade loves the same characters as your child does. They're kids after all.

All that matters is that the child likes it. I let my kids pick whatever they want.

My youngest daughter picked what would be considered "boy" stuff...Planes lunchbox and Thomas the Tank Engine utensils and I didn't think twice about buying it because SHE picked it out.

A lot of 2nd graders at my kids' school still have character backpacks.  My SS was one of very few who had a "regular" backpack.  DS is going into 2nd and wants a Spiderman or Angry Birds backpack.

I have a 7 year old going into 2nd and he picked out a Spiderman backpack. I think it's still okay. I think it's still perfectly fine but probably in 3rd grade, most kids are outgrowing that stuff.

He is still a child, so if course it's fine.

I don't think so. My 2nd grade son does not like the ninja turtles, but says he sometimes feels left out because all the other boys in class love the ninja turtles and Pokemon. A lot of kids love the movie cars, I don't see the problem.
