HS diplomas show you were dedicated and will follow things through. GEDs do not hold the same level of respect as diplomas. If your resume says you get your GED and not a diploma it is automatically discarded. Right now we are getting about 300 applications a day and you have to really stand out.

So because someone might have been a mess up in high school you won't hire them, even though they most likely grew up?

I assume you're only speaking of those who have no further education?

What if I have a college degree on top of that GED? Not that I care. I have a job and will have a PhD before I apply for anything else.

What if they went on to a 2 or 4 year college? I would say that trumps the high school diploma.

You get a high school diploma now when you pass your GED test.

I remember when I was in high school they had tested the GED test on the kids that were graduating. Nearly 80% failed and they have raised the standards for the GED test several times since.

Most of the people we are hiring are in their late teens early 20s so there isnt that much time to grow up
