My ex husband has just completed his rehab after having been there for around 8 months. He had an addiction to Valium, sleeping pills and pain killers, but swears he wants to be clean again now. He has previosly been to rehab where after 1-2 weeks afterwards he starts using again. I have mysself had an addiction so I know what he's going through. The probelm is that I don't know how much contact I want him to have with the kids, if he does start using again. What would be the smartest thing to do?

Counseling for everyone. I'd want him to be stable, for the kids sake, before reuniting everyone. They don't need to see their daddy relapse. They don't need him to pop in for a few weeks and disappear again. He needs to be a constant.

Eight months is a pretty long stint. I think I'd want him to show he could resist the temptation without the structure of rehab.

Counseling, and maybe supervised visits for the first few months.
