I don't want my daughter's name catching on and growing in popularity

I am an avid on answering questions on yahoo answers in the baby name section.

I used to have more people hate on her first name until just recently in the last 48 hours when I've seen somebody want to use it on a boy, use it on a girl twin and somebody who posted about their sister wanting to name her daughter the name asking what people thought of it.

I have a common name (#2 in the year i was born) and I didn't want that for my children but decided to give her a real name with a real meaning but with a long common middle name she could go by if she didn't like her uncommon first name.

My daughter is Tegan Elizabeth and right after I had her a facebook friend named her daughter Teagan Cali which didn't bother me because 1) it's spelled different 2) means different things 3) mine is a girl's name and her spelling makes her's unisex.

There is a porn star named Teagan or Tegan I can't remember. You were beat to it a long time ago. She is or used to be pretty popular too.

Ditto, I never share my kids names online because of the paranoia of them becoming more popular. My name is Ashley, I don't want that for my kids!

There is a little girl our youngest plays with, with the exact same name and same spelling. small world. The Tegan Elizabeth my daughter plays with is 9 years old. So I think the name has been around for a little while. Pretty name :)

I know a girl named Teagan, I think it's more popular than you realize.

There were 1211 Teagans born last year, and 301 Tegans, compared with 21075 Sophias. I'm thinking you're probably safe, though unisex names are catching on a bit, but if you aren't bothered by Teagans you probably won't have an issue. I have the same fear..

I honestly don't get why it matters. Not being snarky but we don't own names.  Sure a name is part of who we are but it doesn't makes us who we are.  Personality of two different people are so vastly different they make that name their own.  We have 3 Hannah's in our church. Not one parent or one person has any trouble with that fact because their personalities make them who they are, not their name.  She is going to run into many people over the years with the same name. Maybe not as frequently as someone with the name Sam or Hannah or whatever, but she will be known for who she is, not just her name.
