So, my cousin is getting married in November. She lives in a different city. I got the invitation and RSVPd that my husband and I would attend. I wasn't planning on taking my kids, they would stay with my MIL.

Anyways, she calls me today and tells me she got my RSVP. I could tell something was wrong so I asked if I filled it out wrong and assured her my kids would not be coming with us.

She reluctantly told me that she wasn't really expecting me to RSVP because I was out of town. That they really don't have room for all her cousins (we're a huge family)

I told her if that's her reason, I would understand, but why send out invites?? She said she didn't want to hurt anyones feelings. I said fine and was saying goodbye and good luck when she asked if I would still be sending a money envelope.....WTH!?!

Uh......NO!!!.

That's tacky. If you don't have room than don't send a invite.

I know it's pretty common to send out invites expecting that people won't make it, but hope they send money/gifts.

However, I've never heard anyone be called out on their RSVP! That is really shitty.

Why would she need room? Are people staying at her house? Just weird.

Well at least you rsvped, I sent birthday invites to some out of town family because it had a great picture of the kids on it and my sil showed up with her family as a surprise! Guess the big bold RSVP didn't occur to her.

I would have hung up on her. Family or not, she was rude.  It is so tacky to call up someone who RSVP'd, and tell them they are uninvited, and then ask if they can expect a gift from that person.

It's a family tradition. We don't do gifts. We do money envelopes. For weddings, quinceƱeras, baby showers.Even when we don't attend.
