Here's a scenario...

Say you'd like to move because you want a bigger yard and better school district. Your house is 2500 sq ft, and you are married with two kids.

There is a house for sale within your budget in one of the best school districts in the state, and it has a 1.5 acre yard, but the house is only 1200 sq ft. It is 3 bed 1.5 bath.

Would you consider moving into a smaller house that has everything else you want? Would you consider moving there just to get into the district with intentions to move again in 5 or so years?

Why not? Just the size of the house?

Yes, a good school district is important enough to make do with a smaller house.

Yup. We moved into a tiny house because it had the yard we wanted. We love it!

Yes, if the school was that awesome and the kids had that much outdoor space, absolutely.

Yes. My childrens education is way more imprtant than the size of our home.

Yes absolutely.  We just did this. We moved from 4200 sq feet (house, in law quarters, 2 car detached garage) to a 1100 sq foot home.  Its newer, in better condition, amazing community.

It took some getting use to, and we had to get rid of a lot of furniture. but it was the best thing we ever did.

It depends on the priorities of your lifestyle.  Are you willing to downsize your possessions for the opportunities the house would give you?  Does you family value education beyond everything else?  Would there be opportunity to expand/remodel the home to meet your needs either now or in the future?

That would really depend. That is half the square footage you currently have so aside from the school district and yard, would you be able to really downsize considering your family size and family needs?
