Hey, people who donate to the food banks...

How about you NOT give frozen meat that expired three years ago?

Volunteered this morning to pack food boxes and while sorting through frozen meat came across several packages that expired in August 2011.

A few months?  Fine.  THREE YEARS?  No.

A few months should have been trashed too. A food pantry can be shut down for giving it out.
Some things that are donated to food banks is beyond gross.

Gross.

We can only donate non-perishables.

Expired meat should be thrown away asap! Never eaten or donated. That's just selfish.

The company my mom works for has their own food bank inside of it for employees. When she had her back surgery last year they sent a food basket for her and there were cans in there that expired in 99. Whats even worse is that she's awful about checking dates and actually ate a couple of the things before I noticed and thankfully they didn't make her sick. The food bank is cleared out every year in December and everything is donated to a shelter and they start all over in January so it's not something that was sitting there for a while, someone had to have donated it to them fairly recently.

1 mom liked this
We can only donate non perishables too.

I always try to think of what the kids would want/need and not just get generic for some things. Like fun Mac and cheese. Spaghettios with characters and some with meat. Fun cereal. Etc.

That's disgusting. We always check dates before we donate.
