Most of you probably don't have any clue what would ensue if a man and woman had rights to a fetus.
Let's say under the proposal I saw on here, (the post about men having to sign for an abortion) that the couple agrees on abortion.
The woman would go and have an abortion. That one was easy.
Now both want to have a baby, so the woman has the baby. That was also simple.
Next we get into legal issues when one person wants the baby and the other wants they abortion. Here is where this becomes complicated.
It's no longer her body, her choice. She can't get the abortion without his consent. But, there is no one way street here.
You guys have now repealed Roe vs Wade.
So let's start with she is adamant she is having a baby but he is adamant about abortion. They will end up going to court. Now the decision isn't in HER hands or in HIS hands either. The judge will make a ruling. He may force the woman to get the abortion if he feels that is in their best interest. Or he may tell the man that he now needs to pay 18 years of child support.
And let's look at the other side of this coin. She doesn't want to carry this pregnancy but he is insistent he wants her too. Again, in court that decision is ripped away from both parties. That judge may decide the guy has to sign so she can get that abortion. Or he may rule the girl has to continue the pregnancy.
Forcing a woman to do so, may also have dire consequences. She may get an illegal abortion. She may die from that or she may die from trying an abortion herself. She may commit suicide. Or she may do drugs, drink alcohol, smoke, never take prenatals, refuse to see a dr, etc.
And, do you truly want a judge to make these decisions for us? Because if a man has to sign for an abortion, he now has rights and may take it to court to get whatever he wants.
Let's not forget rapists and molesters getting the right to rape their victim again, by making a decision for their victim.
