Mom Confessions Mom Confessions

My friend told me she spanks her 11 month old.

When she head butts or bites, she will ask for her child to stop and then if she doesn't she spanks her 11 month old and spanked since 8 months.

I do not know what to think?

I suggested that she just put the baby down and if the baby tries to bite or headbutt her that she close a door. but she told me that spanking works to stop the behavior immediately.  She also told me she tried biting back but that didn't work.

As a non spanker, I don't know if that is the right age to start spanking?  It seems really young to me.

I don't believe in biting back at all. Nothing wrong with spanking because I've done it and it does work

In canada it's illegal to spank kids under 2 years of age and over 12 years of age. Or something like that.

Your friend needs to be beat

I have never spanked a child nor bit a child. She is nuts and abusive IMO

That' illegal here in Canada.  With good reason.  That's too young to even understand that it's a consequence.

If the baby is biting or headbutting she should firmly say no and remove herself from the baby's reach.

O. My advice is as follows: you raise your child, and she raises hers.

What's the difference in biting back or spanking a baby? They don't understand either really all you're doing is inflicting pain on a child who literally doesn't know any better.

I do spank and I have an 8mo old. I wouldn't do that. I don't see how it's effective except as a distraction. There's nicer ways to distract.

But as long as it's not breaking any laws it's none of my business.
