Back story my family is from Finland. When ww2 started my family left to join us military because Finland joined Germany /Hitler.

My husband is an African muslim. He came here for a better life for him and his family, when he was 19. He does have citizenship.

When slavery was going about Africa wasn't the only country people were taken from.

So my question is why is calling someone black socially unacceptable.

No one calls me finish American or Caucasian American. I'm "White". (And trust me people are harsher on me for marrying him then they are on him.

I called someone black and they flipped a lid on me. Are we that sensitive?

Well I'm finish so if you don't know me I expect to be referred to as the sexy finish lady.

Anon to make sure you won't get it right!

I don't get it either. I don't call people black or white though. I call them by their name. The only thing that bugs me is when I say I'm German American, and people jump all over me saying where I came from is irrelevant, because I'm just American.

Someone asked how our child had curly hair. I replied his father is black. They freak.

I don't mind being called Black if it's necessary for some reason to refer to my color. It's a preference I guess.

That's weird. Maybe they were having an off day?

I have a friend who hails from Bermuda.    Whenever anyone refers to him as African American he rants on and on (loudly and in jest)  about how he isn't African, has never been to Africa and knows nobody from Africa!  He is British American or just plain Black!
