I really need help and would like someone who is non judgemental to help me. My now x and I are admittedly horrible with money. We were always SCRAPING by somehow. I am the type of person that if I have 2 pennies, I can find a way to spend them. I have recently had to leave my x due to a few reasons and have come across the deal of a lifetime as far as saving money. A very good friend has let me and my 8 month old DD rent a bedroom from her for a minimal amount. The rent includes utilities. She wants to help me get on my feet and become self sufficient. I do not have a car so that is my immediate need to save up for. I have almost no bills. Here is the breakdown.

Income
830 a month AFTER taxes
Bills
250 rent
50 phone bill
Diapers about 40 a month (2 big boxes of luvs)
Food?????
Savings???
Personal items???

Help!!!

ETA- i have started the child support paperwork. However cases are severely backed up and the CS lady says it will be SEVERAL MONTHS before my case even begins to move forward.

Do you get this in one lump sum or is it split into separate checks

Paid bi weekly. Average check 413 after taxes...maybe a 20 dollar variance either way depending if I get a few more minutes or get sent home early.

Well that was easy. The CS lady says I can qualify for FS but won't know the amount I would get until I apply with the fs department. That would allow me to put a little more into savings.

1 mom liked this

So im going to go with 400.

Every week break it down like this

$125 rent

$25 phone

$20 Diapers

$75 Food and house hold items like tp and paper towels, beauty and hygein items as well.

$100 For car

$55 for emergency funds

Use cash for everyhing and seperate them all. Get envelopes and label them and put the individual cash in the corrosponding envelope. Extra money from your pay check goes in the emergency fund and if your short take it from the car.

Also if you have left overs from any other section like food or diapers put it in the car fund.

this doesnt leave much room so you will have to be really strict but in 12 months or less you will have enough for a cheap little car. Then that 100 can be used to help with an apartment
