Do Children Need Fathers in Order to Grow up Normal?

Ok, reading through some rude woman's comments on another post got me thinking. How important do you feel it is for children to have a mother AND a father in their lives? What about one or the other (single parents)? Or two of one, two of the other? (same-sex parents)

Thoughts?

Statistically, two parent households that are happy produce happier, healthier children.
No matter the genders. I do think that it is accurate.

I think kids need a mom and a dad. Or at least, two parents. I have nothing against same sex couples.

Stats show that kids without an active father in their lives have it harder. Not that mom and dad are together, but that the kid has an active and healthy relationship with their father.

*shrug* I made sure my kids have just that. Even if DH and I were no longer together, they would still have healthy and active relationships with him.

I will get bashed but some kids really need fathers in their lives.

I grew up without a dad from age 8. I couldn't what I would be like if my father had stayed in the picture. Honestly, I'm pretty sure we'd all be dead.

No, but they do need a positive male role model.

I personally think a child will thrive best when they are in a home with a good mom and a good dad.

I think it really depends on the child and the parents. Some kids can grow up normal no matter who raises them. Some can do just fine with a mom. Some need a father figure in their lives. I dont think it is ever the same. I do believe though that mothers and fathers are equally important.

I've been raised by my mom only and I definitely missed and needed a father

Why would you get bashed? I think its completely true.
