ER worthy? Decide this argument between my mother and I EDIT FOR HONESTY

My 5yo ds has a sore knee. He doesn't want to walk on it but can. It's not swollen, bruised, nor has he any bad falls. It started hurting last night. I think it's a pulled muscle and rest is all he needs. My mother is insisting he should go be seen. I don't plan on taking him unless something changes. In CM 's opinion am I underreacting or is she overreacting?

Eta I will add that since he isn't in pain if he sits still, I haven't given him any pain reliever, either. I'm afraid he' ll hurt himself more if he is moving around on it. Mom is even more upset about that.

Did he do something to possibly strain the muscle? Is he screaming in pain?

5 moms liked this

She is overreacting. First, IF medical treatment is needed, go to the PCP, not the ER. This is not an emergency.

Not er worthy, but dr worthy if no improvement.

Doesn't sound ER worthy but if it's really bothering him, I'd put a call in to the pediatrician.

I would ib profin and ice it for a few days. If it's not getting better or gets worse take him in.

Growing pains !

I don't think that's ER worthy . Maybe a regular dr visit though.

Not ER worthy. Keep him off of it for the night. If it isn't better in the AM call his regular doctor just in case.

I wouldn't go to the dr but I would give him ibuprofen and ice it a few times a day for a few days. If he didn't start feeling better in a few days I would take him to the pediatrician.

He had a gym class and park play time. No, he isn't screaming or anything. He is fine as long as he sits still.
