my kids failed my test...

I had a important meeting tonight at my youngest school about reading and writing. My 18yr old works and I did not want to take my 13, & 11 yr old. So I left them home trying to give them a little responsibility. (They are old enough) well I am very nervous leaving them home. They do not think like the average teen and pre teen. So I set down a few rules before I left. One of which was a reminder about not opening the door for ANYONE! So I texted my neighbor and had her send her girls over to knock on the door. Well my kids answered. I was and am disappointed. What do you do? How can you make them see? My 7yr old understands and don't open the door!!! Where did I go wrong with the middle 2???? I'm so lost! They just do not get it!!!!

Maybe you should stop getting your parenting tips from the brady bunch. That would be a good start

Have you gone over the why?

My kids are 8 & 9 and don't open the door when we aren't home.

Maybe they peeked through a window or peekhole, recognized them, and figured it could be important. Just a thought...

They're 11 & 13... it's not okay for them to open the door when it was obviously someone they knew? I get the rule at 7.. but at that age?

This is what I was thinking. If they knew who was at the door they may have felt safe enough to answer.
