I understand her kids were misbehaving, I just think this is the wrong thing to do. Things like this last for YEARS in a kid's memory. There are other ways to discipline then to cancel Christmas, especially for a 5 year old who isn't going to comprehend the lesson she's trying to teach.

Exactly, I think the kids should be disciplined if misbehaving but to cancel Christmas just seems cruel.

Every year there is at least one parent who does this and receives SO much media attention. I don't get why. She was disciplining her kids the best way she knew how. Do I agree with it? No. Would I do it? No. But it's none of my bussines.

I don't get why people always act shocked when they see this.

You can still celebrate Christmas, without the need for gifts......

I read it, and I think what she is doing is fine.   It sounds fun.

My MIL took Christmas away once. The kids certainly did comprehend the lesson.

I would never cancel Christmas because my kids are misbehaving.

In my opinion if things are that out of control then the fault should be placed on the parents and their lack of parenting/discipline and not on the kids.

All holidays and birthdays are off limits as well as other things that only come once a year.
