Is this still the norm?

My sd attends a public school. Last night they had a Christmas play. Literally Christmas, featuring Santa, reindeer, a tree, and Christmas songs including ode to joy. I thought this odd considering it's a public school. Is it still the norm for public schools to have religious holiday celebrations?

They also still have worksheets about Indians. They don't say native Americans.

Depends on the area. If it's an extremely diverse area, than they usually don't.
Our area is predominantly Christian, so we do.

We're in a very baptist area, so I guess that makes sense

1 mom liked this

Not where I am.  This year there was a "welcome the Fall" party held at the end of October to which students dressed in costumes and went from classroom-to-classroom receiving "goodies".  I can't see anything more than a "Welcome Snowflake" event in December.

No religious parties allowed here. It's "Fall Festival" at Halloween, "Winter Holiday" party the day before winter break, and "Spring Fever" party before Spring Break.

This is my nieces spelling list this week. Public school. Bonus word is vengeance and sacrilegious. Completely not ok. Glad my ds is in a different class

Yes my dd is singing a Santa song, ds is playing drums for a Christian song. There's always a mix in our Christmas Concerts.

I live in southeast GA so yes religious songs are sung at school. My kids came home last week singing a Hanukkah song. If it matters they go to public school and we are Baptists.
