You don't have to watch my kids but...

You don't have to yell at me either.

This week the kids are off school and I have to work a couple of day shifts and a couple of night shifts due to the holidays. This happens every year....Normally I work 4 nights a week (2 when the ex has them and 2 when I have them) mom usually watches them one night and dad the other.

So I asked my mom if she could either watch them 2 hours on Sunday, when ex drops them off, or Tuesday night while i work. Dad is going to watch them Christmas Eve.

Instead of just saying NO, she starts screaming at me that she is busy, and can't believe that I asked her. That I HAVE to ask ExSIL to watch them because mom won't. (I don't want the kids with exSIL)

Okay I understand if you are busy it is Christmas week, I will work something out (dad said he would watch them, no big deal). But why do you feel the need to yell at me?

I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them with her then, honestly.

Why on earth would she become so unhinged? :/

That's an extreme reaction. She doesn't sound stable.

1 mom liked this

Sounds like your mom is under some kind of undue stress.... Have you asked her if everything is OK?

She was way out of line and I am really sorry.

Maybe you can get someone else to help you out?

Maybe she's just sick and tired you asking her to watch your kids.

I did, this time is hard for everyone in the family, 6  years ago we lost my brother 10 days before Christmas, but we still try to have the fun christmas's for the kids.

I mean, I totally understand if you can't or just don't want to watch 3 kids. I get it. But why not just say no? Why yell at me? I just asked a question

Then just say so. If she dosn't want to that's fine.

maybe she's a little bit annoyed it seems like she's helping you quite a bit especially for somebody who has an ex who has them some of the time. also I mean Christmas comes every year and you wait till now to make arrangements for your children?
