Honey for babies?

A friend of mine was visiting with her 11 month old. At one point I was handing my kids some graham crackers with their lunches and I offered one to her son. She said "no, those have honey in them and he can't have honey until he's 1." Correct me if I'm wrong, but it wasn't raw honey I was offering....the crackers were baked...? Wouldn't these be safe?

My pediatrician said no honey at all until 1.

It's raw honey that's dangerous because it's sticky and child can choke.

I honestly have no idea.  Even honey you buy at the store is processed (for the most part, I know the raw stuff is available) but doctors say to stay away from it until age 1.

LOL no, it's due to the risk of botulism.

Sticky is not so much the issue, it's the risk of botulism.

No raw honey because of botulism. Crackers would have been fine.

No it's not. It has to do with the bacteria.

It's okay to have those. It's the actual pure honey that's bad.

I believe that commercially prepared is technically ok...but most parents prefer to play it safe.

Even baked-at-home goodies containing honey are a no-go.
