How often?

do dogs go in heat?

I want to get my dog spayed before her next heat and I was told it just ended a few weeks ago.  However, I don't want to do it right now. I would of course.

Also, I was told she didn't get impregnated, but I was also told she is left outside on a leash a lot and I know there is another male toy breed that hangs around her.

So besides a vet visit, how can I tell if she's pregnant?

So much wrong with this post. You shouldn't own animals. The end.

why?  Because I've never owned a dog that wasn't spayed to begin with and I should know signs of immediete pregnancy in dogs?  Especially one I just got yesterday?

that's what I read and I planned to call my vet when they open.

Thank you.

It depends on the breed.

It makes me sad you put your dog outside on a leash.

the post said she just got the dog yesterday and she was told it had just been in heat and that the previous owners left it outside on a leash. =)

I think it's normally every 6-9 months but don't quote me. I could be totally wrong.

The vet can tell you if the dog is pregnant and if you're still wanting to go through with fixing the animal at that time, they will abort any fetus the dog might be carrying.

If the animal is in heat when you take the dog in to be fixed, there usually is an extra charge for the procedure.
