My DS is 16 and hits me up for money weekly. I choose to give it to him because I can. $20 for this, $50 for that, need money for a cab, etc.

My DD is 17 and doesn't ask me for money. Last time she did it was for a dress for an 6th grade dance. I'm serious that she asks for absolutely nothing.

DD asked me this morning if I could buy her a used galaxy s4 mini on amazon for $180. It's more money than I have ever handed out at one time. Last time ds asked for $150 I said no it was too much.

But the circumstances are different.
