I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND THE POINT

I went to go visit my aunt in Georgia and stayed with her a few days. When I woke up early, I went into a room off the dining area to stay away from the bedrooms so I didn't wake anyone up.

When she woke up and saw me sitting on a couch she had a panic attack. She said sitting rooms are not for sitting, no one is to step foot in that room, only for looks, blah blah blah.

So I didn't go in there again.....

But uhmmmmm why have a room you can't go in? And why furnish it with things you can't sit on?

Maybe that's a southern thing. I honestly don't know.

Our living room is a formal living room and only for guests.  Our kids are not allowed to sit in there.

I suppose its her house and she can do what she wants.

I find it odd that you didnt already know that.

Weird. I'd sit the heck out of that room.

It's not uncommon, but it's wasteful and stupid.

Haha! Growing up my aunt had one of those rooms too. Now they've completely renovated and that room is no longer off limits, but it's completely ingrained in me not to step foot in there lol.

I would go in there the next chance I got and fart all over that furniture.

A sitting room in for formal occasions. It's the same concept as a parlor. We don't have one, but we did in the house I grew up in, and a formal dinning room. I'm in Arkansas so maybe it's a southern thing?

Hahaha!! Both my parents and grandparents have rooms that no one is allowed into. They're only for show and special occasions. Formal sitting rooms.

My formal living room is only for guests and special occasions. It's not used otherwise.
We use the family room.
Same with my formal dining room as opposed to my regular dining room.
