Do you think kids will understand when they are older

That mom was sick and she had to leave? I just don't think I can continue on anymore. It's not my fault but my head can not take it. My body has given up.

Will they understand suicide? Probably not. And they probably resent you for it their entire lives.

Probably.

Write them a letter or record something and explain it. Something they can keep forever as a memory.

Are you terminally ill?

Are you leaving for good?  are you truly sick?  If you just need to go and get healthy, I think kids will understand.   If you are leaving, without any reason or good-bye, then you can expect bitterness and resent them.

No, mental illness won't leave me alone.

Probably not. It's something that would always haunt them and they would never get over it.
