I met my older brothers gf today, she has scars on her neck and wrists my little sister asked about them and instead of just saying "I was in an accident" she said she was strung up in a tree with some sort of wire after her family was killed. She didn't stop after that, oh no she said it was 3 days before someone found her and cut her down......Ffs why would you tell that to a 9 year old......

Not that I would want a 9 year old to hear those details, maybe she needs to "not minimalize" her clearly traumatic ordeal to cope.  "In an accident' really downplays what happened to her, that was awful.

Why would the 9 year old ask?

My son is 6 and he knows not to ask about others' appearances.

I think many times that people who have endured something very intense lose their filters. She may not realize how damaging her story may be to others because it's her norm (always present with her).

It was rude if the 9yo to mention the scars and it was inappropriate for the lady to explain them like that.

Situations like this are what MANNERS and social niceties are for.
