Who should face punishment?

The story I've gotten from the principal and my child both match. The principals version comes from the teacher

Girls are both 12.

Girl A scooted her chair over to a table scraping it on the ground and making a loud noise.

Girl B didn't like the noise and felt Girl A did it on purpose so she grabbed her arm and twisted it.

Girl A then slapped Girl B. Teacher witnessed it all and sent both girls to the principals office.

Both girls were suspended. So do you feel both children should have been suspended?

Girl B attacked Girl A for making a noise?

I'd defend myself too.

I agree with the principal. Jeez. When I was 12 I never would have thought to do something like that to another kid.
