My husband ruined our dinner

So we just moved into a new house we have only been here about a week. The stove here is old and only two of the burners worked but other than that it cooks fine. Then last night my husband took a look at the stove and noticed that the wires were burnt. While he was doing that I was prepping chicken to cook for dinner. After I was done I left it sitting in the pot on the counter until dhwas done messing with the stove. About an hour later he decided he didn't want to plug the stove back up and risk something happening so I covered the chicken and put it back in the fridge. Tonight he fixed the stove so I started cooking the chicken but then dh started questioning if the chicken was good or not. Since we have young kids we decided not to chance it but do you think the food would have been bad?

Some recipes recommend you bring meat to room temperature before cooking it. }shrug{ I would have eaten it but I'm not paranoid about that kind of thing.

It was covered in the fridge for one day...

When was it purchased? Was it frozen?

Also think of it this way, what if the difference between picking it up as you shop. It sitting in your cart, going thur check out, driving home and putting it away? With the way most stores are set up, meat is one of the first few items in your cart.

It might have been ok but better too be safe. I'm kinda the same way just for precautions. I'm sure your next dinner will be great

It would have been fine. Bad chicken is pretty easy to spot/smell/feel.
