Debating what to do with DHs truck

So he's got a Nissan Titan 2006 with 180k miles on it. The Kelly blue book value is 3k trade in and up to 5k private party sale.

It needs some work done to it, obviously. He got an estimate for 3k. This would possibly get us another year or two out of the vehicle though.

To me it seems silly to put 3 thousand bucks into a vehicle that's only worth 3 thousand bucks.

So, I'm not sure what to do. Do we drive it until it won't go anymore and save the 3 grand for a new vehicle? Or do we put money into this truck and pray we can buy more time to save for a new vehicle.

Depends on how much more you can get out of the truck
if you don't want/need a new car right now and putting 3gs into it would make it last them go that route.

Thanks I guess you're right because it's not like we can find a used car for 3 grand that would last us 2 years.

I would just drive it into the ground.

Thats what my dh is doing to his car.

 I'd say sell it.

I'm tempted to do this because what if we sink all that money into it and something else breaks and bam we're out everything.

We just went through this almost exactly....A truck with a $3000 private sale value, in need of $3000 worth of work.  We ended up putting $3000 down, plus they actually gave us $4000 for the trade in and we financed the rest of a new truck.  All of the money that truck has cost me in the last few years, I was just done.  Especially knowing that even if I put $3000 into it now, that it would just need something else in a few months.

Yeah, you would probably need to take on payments.
Fix it and drive it. Start saving for a huge down payment in a few years.
