I fired the babysitter because she's obese

She's gained another 50lbs over the last year. She's not pregnant. She can barely breathe and is constantly sitting when I go pick up my 4 year old. She asked me why. I told her the truth. Honesty is the best policy. I can't trust the safety of my child to a 300lb woman.

If her weight is keeping her from doing a good job then I get it. What did she say when you told her?

This is up to you. If you feel she's incapable of performing duties needed, then go for it. I'd it's because you don't like the way she looks, it's still up to you, but makes you kind of a crappy person.
My mom was very, very overweight. Not because she wasn't healthy, either. Her thyroid gave out, nodules. She had it removed. The whole time trying to get synthetic dose correct. She tried every diet, had a nutritionist, even. I think she lost 4 or 5 lbs with the nutritionist over a year. She was and IS an amazing mom who never had trouble keeping up with me. Stairs were hard go her, but that was due to a car wreck in her teen years. Her miniscus was shredded and she had bone spurs in her knee.
In high school, she had the gastric bypass surgery and lost 150lbs. She's kept off 100 lbs over more than a decade.
Weight isn't the only determining factor over whether a person is capable of keeping up with young kids. Just so you Know. Best of luck in finding the right sitter for your family!

Young children love falling asleep in the arms of a fat woman.
