I was divorced 10 years ago.

We had bought a truck right before the divorce which he kept.

I  get papers today saying I am being sued in civil court, because he was in a DUI accident and caused bodily and property damage!!   He had the BARE minimum insurance.. (jerk!!)

I signed the title to the truck and he signed the title to the car in court and each was supposed to get a new title taking the other off.  My divorce papers even spell it out.   Neither is responsible of the other vehicle  financially or legally and we both were to obtain new titles.  Well.. guess he didn't do that!!  Same with the house.. I moved out and he kept the house and paid me out the equity.  I signed a quit claim deed, and am no longer financially or legally responsible.

I am calling my lawyer Monday.. but ... until then ..

tell me what you think should I be worried I am going to be held civilly responsible for the family's medical bills and the cost of their car, or will the divorce papers be enough to get out of it??

Worried!!

And I feel sick he really hurt a family!!!!!!

i would think you would show the divorce papers and you shouldn't be liable but i'm not a lawyer. so i really have no idea. he didn't hold up to his part though so i think if the papers are clear you'll be fine. i dunno. i hope so. good luck
