Stupid question does Australia have fire ants?

Today my DH and I went down to Kingsville to visit the King ranch. While we were waiting to board the bus I saw 7 huge ant piles in the grass. I then watched a lady walk over to two close together and kick it then stamp her boot on the ground and kick it again. And again. And again. And again.

It was the weirdest thing in the world, kids do stuff like that but a lady with gray hair who looked to be in her 60s?

Odd.

We got on the bus and the tour guide asked where everyone was from and she and her husband said Australia. So are there no ants in Australia? I can't imagine an adult surrounded by other adults would kick at ant piles over and over again. Especially fire ants! Unless they've never encountered them before.

If my Aussie DH were home I'd ask him for you. Google it?

Wouldn't it make more sense to google this?

Nope. I enjoy conversations here. Half the shit on cafemom can be found via Google and yet people still post here.

Kicking ant piles is fun.  It's awesome to watch them swarm.  However, I'm smart about it.  You kick it once or twice before they've had a chance to to all leave the nest, then you back the hell away from it and just watch.
