Why wouldn't you want to take 6 weeks? And most daycares won't take newborns.

Why would you want to take less? Your body needs to heal, you need to bond with your newborn and get feedings all settled.

My sil went back after 1 week. They made her talk with a pyschiatrist first. I went back after 3 but I had a basic delivery.

I agree... you need at least the six weeks.
The only people that I know that don't take the whole time are people who own their own businesses or people who opt for nannies. I am sure there are other instances as well.

Physically I was fine within a few days of giving birth but since I'm assuming you're talking about going back to work and will be using daycare, you should know that many centers won't accept infants less than 6 weeks old.
