Is this sentence grammatically correct or incorrect?

"Hardly had I walked in the door than the crying started."


I'm calling on the grammarians of the bunch.  I have faith in you to know this answer.

It seems this topic is somewhat up to debate.  Some believe the beginning of the sentence must be "No sooner did I..." in order to use "than."  Others would agree that it is correct as is.
