I have an 8 year old son who is the size of a 10 year old. He is severely autistic. He is unable to go into a public bathroom by himself. As there are few family bathrooms in public, I have to, on occasion, take him into the women's bathroom with me if his father is not with us. If you were in the bathroom, how would you feel?  What if he was much older? He is mostly nonverbal and is obviously not normal by looking at him.

Eta: I do not allow him to look under or between stalls. I'm worried about what I'll do once he hits puberty. I'm not comfortable going into a men's restroom. I also make him go at home before we leave, but sometimes we are out for a long time.

Also, we do teach him functional skills, but it takes him a really long time to master these skills. I'm talking years. We have been working on him not running off or bolting for at least 5 years now. He hasn't mastered that but is much better that he used to be.

As long as hes not looking under the doors or trying to open them i wouldnt have a issue. If he just goes and washes his hands no big deal. I wouldnt think twice about it

If he looked "off" I wouldn't care but if he looked normal and acting like a normarl 8 year old I would be pissed.

I Totally Understand Where YOUR Coming From My SON Is 5 AND AUTISTIC I Get Looks All THE time.

I don't care. The stalls have doors, so I wouldn't think twice, honestly.

I personally don't care who uses what bathroom, as long as they're not peeking into the stalls.

I take my autistic 7 year old in with me. Don't worry about it.
