If Dh and you can't drive? For medical reasons. We just can't afford city rent. But we would loose our transportation moving to a small town... Is It possible to live in a small town with no car?

Long walks are good for everyone. How old are your kids?

I live in a town with a population of about 2,000. It's possible if you live IN town to make it without a car, but if you lived where most of us do (the woods) you need one.

depends on your definition of small town

My home town is 1500 people in the mountains, nearest shopping was 30 minutes away. There was only a small, insanely priced store with basics

Where i live now is 5000 people, and we at least have a walmart

I moved from St. Louis to Glens Falls.  There is a tiny bus company here, and it runs very few places at hardly any times.

We save money for cabs which are cheaper here and makde friends so you can carpool, but mostly we use cabs.

It is hard, but we make ends meet.  Move close to a little shopping center so you can walk.  A mile isn't too bad of a walk even with 2 kids.  One of my even has autism.  He usually goes in the stroller and the 3yo walks.  It is safe for us to have the toddler walking than the 7yo autistic one.

This town has 1400pop I've seen three ads for places rent. And a three bedroom house is $600-$800 to rent per month that's WAY less then the 1500-2000 a month for a three bdrm here...

Depends on how small the town is. My town has 22k, I think it's small but I used to live in Des Moines. The only public transportation is a cab. But they don't drive up and down the streets, you have to call them.
