If he asked you to would you lie for him? My ex's mom did. She smiled in my face and lied to me and it hurt.

I wouldn't out right lie, but I wouldn't out him either. I'd just try to avoid the situation all together.

Hell no.

If its a girlfriend or a fiancee then I would break that relationship off myself.   If it is a wife.. I would beat his ass.

It is a lesson for all of us in our own lives.  You may feel justified in helping your son in a particular case, but, on the off beat chance that the marriage *doesn't* fail, your daughter-in-law will never forgive you, and will probably avoid you at all costs.  Which means, that you are probably sacrificing your relationship with your grandchildren *and* your son, because he is going to have to choose.  Call this one of the lessons that I learned from *my* mother-in-law.
