WDYT? Legitimate Rule or A****** Teacher?

I had to run some errands after work and expected to be gone for a couple of hours. My brother forgot his key so I dropped by his school to give it to him. I got there as he was changing classes so his teacher just told him to go to the office on his way to class. He usually walks with a few friend so they decided to come up and say hello with him. They all came up and hugged me and my two little ones. After the kids left, a teacher who was walking up the hall way and said, very haughtily that I wasn't allowed to hug other people's kids and I could get charged with assault if the parents found out. I called the principal and he said there was no such rule.

One of the kids has been in and out of my house since he was 2. The little girl we have known since they were in the 3rd grade and the other boy I have known since last year and he has spent the night at my house. Assault? Seriously?

BTW these kids are 11-12 years old.

While the teacher handled it badly I can understand why he wouldn't want an adult not related to a student to have physical contact with them on school grounds. It could end up being a liability for the school if accusations were made. That being said there HAD to be a better way to say that to you.

Overly cautious and slightly paranoid teacher.

Obviously not a rule or the principal would've confirmed

Teacher sounds like a wackjob. I hope the principle sets her straight.

You already know it's not a rule, you said you called and asked.

Obviously it's not a rule if the principal told you as much. That said, it was a rule at my son's old school.
