That Request Was Tacky

Last night was my dd's band banquet. It was our first one as she's a 7th grader. Anyways the banquet is for grades 7-12. It was at our high school and featured a buffet style dinner that I had to pay for. Before they dismissed anyone to get food the band parent president gets up to speak. First he goes over the 2014-2015 fundraisers that have been completed and says we raised over 15K. He then does a quick break down of where the money will be going to. Then he says that this dinner is being charged by the plate. SO if anyone wants seconds could you kindly scrap the plate you have and re-use it.

Okay I don't usually get seconds so this really doesn't apply to me. But I just could not imagine asking people who have paid for a dinner ticket to do something like that. I would have been embarrassed to make such a request.

Thoughts??

Business casual. No one was in jeans or street clothes. The most laid back outfit I saw was a polo and khakis. Lots of men/boys in suits. Lots of nice dresses.

It was a buffet style dinner that was charged by the plate? That's a new one for me.

It sounds like they were trying to raise more money for the organization.

Right! I paid $15 a ticket. I wasn't aware that it was going to be buffet style. I'm not insulting the banquet. It was very lovely. But this request to me was odd and a little off putting. I couldn't imagine being the guy up there with a smile making the request to a room full of 200+ people.

Isn't it a health code violation to reuse plates at a buffet?
