We really have. My daughter is going to graduate this month with her Bachelors of Social Work. I couldn't be prouder of her, and honestly, of myself.

When I first started talking about adopting from foster care, most people just laughed or shook their head at me. When I was matched with my daughter, then 13 years old and 19 weeks pregnant, almost everyone told me that I was making a mistake. That I wouldn't be able to manage it. That it would be a disaster.

We had our ups and downs. Many, many awful downs. But the ups, they made it so worth while. Seeing her learn to be a mother, while also learning to be a daughter, seeing her start to feel safe.

My amazing little girl is now an amazing young woman, and my little granddaughter is almost a teenager. Life has been interesting, challenging, heartbreaking, and amazing with these two wonderful people.

I think it's amazing that you adopted her and helped her and her baby have the best chance at life.
