Should he seek medical attention?

I need some advice.    DH is a mechanic and sometimes works on cars from home.   While working on a car last Friday he dropped a pretty heavy hammer on his ankle towards the front, where the ankle meets the foot.    It was swollen up pretty bad, he put ice on it, and it went down.  It has gone down quite a bit, but it's still a little swollen.  Should he seek medical attention??

Can he walk on it? Is he in unbearable pain?

He can walk on it, no pain when he walks.

Personally, if it was my foot, I wouldn't. Swelling after an injury is fine. If it's not black and blue, painful to walk on, severely swollen (not "a little"), I wouldn't waste the money on a doctor's appointment.

Yes.

If he is willing please take him!

My Dad is a mechanic and every time he has been injured we have had to wait til he passes out to take him to the Dr. Because he refuses to go.

Sounds like it is just bruised.  I would only get it looked at if he begins having pain again and difficulty walking on it.

No, not if he can walk on it and isn't in pain. It can take a long time for bruising and even swelling to subside depending on the injury and doesn't necessarily mean there's a bigger issue. I'd wait awhile longer before wasting the time and money on a doctor.

Personally I'd want an X-ray. Hope he's feeling better soon.
