MLK is a monster

Is what ds keeps reading. He has to read a biography about him and do a report.

So ds is reading, and everytime Minister comes up, ds says monster. Every time. I've corrected him every time, for almost a week now, and he's still messing it up.

Is he rushing? Guessing? He does this with other words too. He's 9, in 3rd and does have reading problems (a bit behind and comprehension issues). Suggestions on how else i can help him with this, other than keep correcting?

Like breaking it up? Min-i-ster, like that? If so, we've tried that too. I made him reread it, sounding it out slowly. At first he sounded out monster, but i took him step by step with each letter sounds and he got minister, but when he's regularly reading, it's back to monster King. Idk if he's just rushing- it seems like it is, but then again, idk.

He does wear glasses, got them in October

Oh well, maybe he just enjoys monster instead of minister,

Depends on what, if any, eye condition he may have.  I would talk to the doctor who prescribed his glasses and ask what may be happening.

He's guessing and likely rushing. A couple of the kids I volunteer with for reading do this. Very frustrating. Have him slow down. Also have him practice the two words, and any other similar ones so he can learn to recognize the distance at a glance.
