3mg melatonin seems like too much for toddler??

My daughter's ped suggested melatonin to help her sleep at night. The script she wrote is for 3mg doses for 7 days. That seems like a lot to me for a toddler....

Has anyone else given their toddler melatonin? At what dose? For how long?

What's the issue and yes. May I suggest Celestial kids sleepy time tea?

I'd maybe start with a half dose to see what happens.

My 2 year old takes half of a 3mg tablet. He only gets it when he sleep schedule gets out of wack. It works very well and fast. He is big for his age so I think a whole one would be too much. my step daughter is 12 and takes a whole one and it works for her.

She wakes up all night long. I've tried the tea, camomile drops, Tylenol, turning electronics off 2 hours before bed.....she sometimes has night terrors also.

I think the goal is to have her take for a week to see if it resets her circadian rhythms. (She wakes all night long, especially between 2 and 4 am)

I didn't start mine on melatonin until he was 4, so I don't know what would be safe for a toddler, and 1mg was enough for him until he turned about 7. If you feel the need to use it, I would start out at 1mg.

My 6 yr old gets 1 mg. It works great. He started at .5 mg at 2, so i haven't had to increase it much over the years.
His dosage was also recommended by his pediatrician.

I would ask the ped then maybe that's the therapeutic amount for resetting etc
