When did your child start preschool?

I'm a sahm, and lo is only 9mo, so I know I'm pretty early...

Just curious to know when I should start seriously looking into this, as I've been scanning a few private schools.

Also, do you have any ideas on what I can be doing to better prepare lo for preschool?

Any input?

Our daughter started pre-k a month before she turned 4.Her birthday is right at a month shy of the cutoff for Kindergarten,so she did 2 years of pre-k.

Typically they start at three. Some places ( like where we live), they offer classes for 2 1/2 year olds. Dd started this year at almost three.

How do you figure out about birthdays and cutoffs?

My son was born in January

I have four kids - the first two started at 3 and 18mo.

My current two (younger kids) started this year. One is 2 the other is 12mo.

You aren't too early, if you can find a preschool that starts at 12mo.

And what do you mean "prepare for preschool" ?

It is PRE school, haha. You don't prepare.

For me, preschool is 12 hours of my life back during the week and worth every single penny. I'm just happy my kids are loved and cared for while they are out of my care - the fact that they are learning and developing social skills is like a bonus.

The cutoff just depends on the district but the cutoff date is usually in August or September,so if the child is not 5 years old by that date, then they won't start Kindergarten until the next year. The cutoff date here is September 5 and my daughter's birthday is October 6 so she started Kindergarten right before turning 6.
