How do you do time out?

Odd question yes. My husband thinks time out sitting in a chair for a long amount of time vs standing in a corner for a shorter time is not effective. Mine is 3. And I put her in time out in a corner for 3 minutes. That's a full 3 minutes that I don't have to tell her to turn around or stand up. Every time I have to tell her her time starts over. Which makes it more than 3 minutes. My husband prefers to make her sit down in time our for about 10 or 15 minutes. What do you do/think?

I've never been a fan of time out so here's a bump!

I think both are ridiculous.

They go in their room. I no longer care that it's fun, it's just a needed break.

We do about ten. He's 5. He'll live.

I let my kids choose if they want their timeout chair or bed. I tell them to stay until they calm down and feel like they can be nice again. It usually takes just a couple of minutes for them to chill out and return to playing.

My 3 year old does 3 min on a chair. Them I remind him why he's there, I get an apology (or whoever deserves the apology gets one. We remind him he's loved and we hug and move on.

10 min for a 3 year old is a long time. The rule of thumb is 1 min per year old.
