CPS knocked on my door, UPDATE.

A few of you have asked for an update to my original post ( http://mobile.cafemom.com/group/115189/forums/read/21168157/CPS_knocked_on_my_door_today_Im_livid?next=1 ) and with an overwhelming amount of comments on my other post I figured I'd address some stuff here and update you guys.

First off DD(1) was not at home nor has she ever been left home alone with DS(8).  While there is no minimum age requirement I do not feel it is a safe idea.

Secondly I really feel the need to stress that fact that not all kids are the same.  My 8 yr old is not like yours and yours is not like mine.  We are protective of our children but also believe DS especially should be granted some responsibilities because he has shown to us he can handle it.  My DH is not American and was raised to be a self sufficient child.  I was raised here and had a SAHM who volunteered a lot at our church meaning she wasn't always home when we got home.

Anyways, I got a phone call yesterday from the investigator's supervisor.  She read me that actual report that was taken.  It said, "Ethan was left alone for an unspecified about of time into the late evening while his parents were out of town.  He did not have access to a phone incase of emergencies."

The supervisor then said that because of the time line we gave and because of the fact DS was checked in to tutoring at 3pm and because he has a cell phone they are closing the case.  She said that we did nothing illegal and that Ethan is a very smart, well adjusted child.  Sure reassured me that if we were comfortable with leaving him alone we may.

**I was also made aware by my son's school and the supervisor that it is perfectly legal for them to talk minors without permission at their school as long as they notify the parents or guardians within 24hrs after the interview.**

**My son's school told me that they would block the interview if and only if his file had a letter from us stating we do not consent to it.**

Also CPS here (Texas) has updated their standard questions to include the following:

*have you ever been showed naked photos of anyone?
*has anyone ever taken naked photos of you?
*have you ever been shown movies with naked people in it?
*has anyone ever recorded you while you were naked?

These questions were added because of how often children are exploited and how easy it is to upload and share child pornography.

She suggested that these become things we talk about as not appropriate just like we do inappropriate touching.

We also spoke with the owner of Huntington who apologized to us because the proper protocol he has in place was not follow. He said in cases of suspected abuse the employee is to notify the director and the director is to notify him and then they are supposed to sit down together and discuss how to move forward. He also said that had he been made aware of the situation he would have told them it is not a reportable offense and to move on.

Nice.  In NY, a case is closed after 60 days if it's unfounded.

Glad it all worked out. I didn't see a thing wrong with him home alone a short amount of time. 8 year olds need a lil responsibility IMO.

Maybe talk to your son about what he can talk to them about what he can not.

Like staying home alone.

This is what she left with me.

I've said it before I'm not concerned about whether you believe me.

I'm glad it's over.

I said in your last post to cooperate, they'll see there was nothing by of concern and move on.
