Birth control question

My dd went to the dr to start bc today. She was given two months of pills but doesn't know if she is supposed to start taking them tonight or if she needs to wait for her next cycle. I can call the dr tomorrow but I thought I'd see if anyone was familiar. It's ortho tri-cyclin.

I've always started on the Sunday of when I got the rx. I either skipped a period or I had break through bleeding. Give it a month or 2 for her body to get used to it.

If she doesn't mind having break through bleeding for like 3 months, she can start whenever she wants. I recommend starting on the first day of her next period though. No breakthrough bleeding and no need for backup protection once you start the pill.

The insert in the prescription explains it all very clearly to you.

She doesn't have to wait until her period, but starting on the first day of her period has the benefit of not requiring a back up birth control method after starting the pill and also lessens the likelihood of breakthrough bleeding that is sometimes seen when starting the pill.
